Has music really broke down racial barriers?
We often hear the phrase that music has broken down racial barriers, but how true is that statement?
With a young generation of whites now listening to rap and r&b music has this cultural fusion made them any less racially prejudiced that their parents?
Even slave masters enjoyed the harmony and vocal range of the slaves when they sang but it did not make them any less racist.
There is a tendency to cheapen or underestimate the complexities of racism where an individual can enjoy black music and even date a black person but still hold racial prejudices.
In my view it is a myth that music has broken down racial barriers.
